Pike nods. Time to see where Vinny’s loyalty stands. Get the cops to arrest him, torture him, and see what he says. Police under our pay will make sure they do everything and anything to him for a full day.
Chapter 7
Alice
I can't believe what happened. I should be so angry right now. I am, but I'm also very turned on, very horny. Never, I mean never, have I felt sexier in my life.
I need a drink. Grabbing a glass and a bottle, I pour myself a shot. As I down my drink, I look up and see Angel watching me. Fuck, just his eyes on me makes me wet again for him. I should not be doing this.
I break eye contact with him when I hear Drew come up behind me. “Where have you been?” she asks in a panic.
"Nowhere," I answer quickly.
“Oh my God, you look…” She moves closer to me. “Did you just have sex with Angel?”
"Will you be quiet, and no I didn't have sex with Angel, he...he…"
“I want details, every single detail. But later.” Drew looks around the bar. “Dad called. He needs to talk to us.”
My body freezes. Uncle Andy wanting to talk after my shift is not a good thing, not a good thing at all.
“Where’s Vinny?” I ask, looking around the bar.
"I saw him going up to Angel's office." Drew grabs my arms and turns me to face her. "Everything will be fine. Dad said not to worry, if it was anything to worry about, he would have come here. Maybe it's just to talk," Drew says.
I know she is probably right, but that doesn't mean I'm going to relax about it. I fill my glass up again and take another shot and another.
"Hey, are you serving or just drinking?"
I turn to the woman standing by the bar.
I'm not in the mood to work. Not even a little. I go to tell her to fuck off, but Drew takes her order. I see Vinny walking down the stairs, and I walk over to him quickly.
"What did he want this time?" I ask as I walk with him through the dance floor.
“We’ll talk when we get to Andy’s house,” Vinny tells me.
I stop in my tracks.
Vinny gives me a reassuring smile. “Alice, Andy said he just needs to talk.” He gives me a kiss on the cheek.
I shake my head as I take a deep breath. I look up at Angel's office, and there he is, yet again watching me. Does he have nothing else to do but watch me?
The rest of my shift went slow, way too slow.
"Can we go, please?" I turn to Drew as I watch her getting her bag. I look over at Vinny. He better be ready.
"I'm coming," she snaps at me. She's been in a mood from the moment Warren walked into the bar. I have to admit, he was really snappy with her. They had a little argument, then he disappeared and I haven’t seen him since. Now Drew is taking that anger out on me.
"Listen, he might be having a bad day. I mean, the things you've told me about the family, and how much people fear Angel, maybe something went wrong," I say as I wrap my arms around her.
“Yeah, I know, but he didn’t need to be a fucking asshole about it.” She looks behind me, then at me. She doesn’t need to tell me who’s behind me. I can feel him.
"Tell Vinny that he has five minutes then we are leaving," I tell Drew as I turn to face Angel and my body goes weak just looking at him. My thighs shiver remembering his lips kissing them, the way his tongue took control of every part of my body.
“You and Vinny…”
"Vinny and I are friends. He’s eighteen years older than me. Don’t even think about trying to stop our relationship." I take a step back as he gets closer to me. "Nothing will ever happen with Vinny. He's like the dad I never had." I know I don't have to tell him anything, but I won't let him say anything to Vinny.
He stands with his hands in his pockets, just watching me. I break eye contact with him before he drinks in the last of my soul. He’s already taken most of it.
"I won't say anything to him, but that doesn't mean he can touch you."
I shake my head as I bring my gaze to his. I realize immediately that they've changed, turned darker. Angel takes a step closer, but I have nowhere to go when my back hits the wall.
"No one touches you, Alice." His hand gets closer to mine, and I know he won't hurt me, but this is the Frost family we are talking about, and my body begins to shake. "Are you scared of me, Alice?"
“Do you want me to be scared of you?”
"No. I will never hurt you. I will never let anyone else hurt you, either. I will never let anyone touch you. I will kill any man who puts a hand on you. Alice, you now belong to me." Angel leans closer, his lips settling on mine. As softly as they touch mine at first, Angel then kisses me more deeply, his mouth searching mine. Pushing his body against mine, my body melts into his and I start kissing him back. The moment I let him in, Angel slows the friction between our bodies. My hands fist his jacket as I pull him closer. His body touches mine and I feel how hard he is, which only makes me want to get closer to him. Fuck, he turns me on so much. I run my hands down his body wanting to touch his skin.
Angel's fingers run through my hair and pull me away from him just a little. I can still feel his breath on my lips. "Say you belong to me Alice," he says.
My gaze moves between his eyes and lips, my breath becoming heavier. I try to move closer to him, just wanting to kiss him again, but he pulls my hair so I can’t.
“Say it, Alice.”
I start to answer him but stop when I hear Pike.
"Angel, you need to come now."
Angel doesn't move away from me, his eyes still burning into mine.
"Now! Warren—"
“I’m coming,” Angel bites back. He takes a step away from me, gives me one last look, then leaves.
I watch Pike as he stands by the door, not saying a word to him. Chilled by the exchange, I walk out.
Say you belong to me. I can't get mixed up in this world. I'm already hiding from it. The Frost family won't fight my war when they have enough wars of their own.
“You okay?” Vinny asks.
"Yeah. Let's see what Uncle Andy wants," I say as we leave the bar. This night has been one rollercoaster of emotions.
***
I sit at the table waiting for Uncle Andy to say something. He has been small talking for thirty minutes. He knows it's annoying me. He needs to start talking.
"Uncle Andy, what is happening?" I cut him off as he talks about his day at work.
He started working as a lawyer for the Frost family, about three months after Angel went to prison. He only works with Mr. Frost, and his own matters. Drew told me none of Mr. Frost’s children know he works for their dad, because his work had nothing to do with that side of the business. That’s where I stopped asking questions.
“When I was at Robert’s house, I overheard a conversation, about who the new gun crew might be. This is a big might, but I heard it could be the Midlands family.”
I see Uncle Andy talking, but no words are actually reaching my ears. I knew this day would come.
“Alice.” Vinny’s voice shakes me out of my thoughts.
“They might be coming down, but they are not here for you. They still have no idea where you are. Ben said they are looking in the States at the moment. You’re safe. If or when they come, you just stay in the apartment, and you will be fine,” Uncle Andy tells me.
Ben was put in the Midlands family very early. He's built a trust with them. He got into the inner circle, and since then we've been able to stay a step ahead of them. I keep telling them that Ben needs to get out. If they find out he is a spy for me, I can't even imagine what they will do to him. I barely sleep because I worry every day about him. I wait for the phone call telling me he's been found out.
“Alice, I think we need to tell Angel…”
“No. He shouldn’t have to fight my war. You keep telling me the Frost family is like this, but you and I know the Midlands family is just as bad. There is no way I want any blood on my hands,” I tell them.
If Angel means what he says about killing anyone who touches me, then the war will be a bloodbath.
"But you're fine with us having your blood on our hands?" Drew shouts at me.
I know this is a fight neither of us wants. Drew and I are like sisters, and I know she will fight if she thinks I'm wrong.
"Uncle Andy said they aren't looking for me. So maybe they will come and leave." I move away from the table as they all just look at me. I walk over to the garden to get some fresh air.
I close my eyes for a moment, then look up at the night sky, remembering the day the Midlands family changed my life. I can still hear the screams. I can still hear the begging.
That sound will never leave me. Ben and Vinny haven’t told me everything about the Midlands. All I know is that they want me, and want to make my life hell.
Vinny sat me down one day when I came back to Sinwick and told me that the Frost family are the most feared family in England. I’m still not sure why he told me that. Maybe he thought that if I stayed close to where they lived, the Midlands would never come here.
I walk back in, knowing the conversation is not over yet. “I will be very careful, I promise. Drew and Vinny both work at the same place, so I will be safe,” I tell them all, as they look over at me.
"Well, I think I might have a way to find out what is happening with the Frost family and the business. Pike offered me a job." Vinny says.
I look over at Vinny in shock. "But I have a feeling they're going to check my loyalty. Job one, kill a man on a list."
"No, no, no. Not happening, you are not killing…are you fucking crazy? And why do they need another man? Not happening, Vinny," I say as I start pacing the room. He is not getting mixed up with that family. And what the hell? Kill someone just to prove you can do what they want?
“Hey.” Vinny stops me from pacing. “Everything will be fine. We’re here for a long time. Angel really isn’t going to let you go anytime soon. He has made that clear with every male staff member. We touch you, we die. I don’t think he’s joking about that.”
I look up at Vinny, shaking my head. Angel needs to bring it down a little.
"He did not say that," I argue.
“He did. So as much as you don’t like it, you’re Angel’s girl. We’re staying here for now. Isn’t it better…”
“Vinny, you cannot kill someone. They were brought up in this world. You were an army man,” I say as a tear escapes my control. This is not what I wanted. I didn’t want him to get this far into the Frost family. I didn’t want him in the family at all. We were good until fucking Angel Frost came into my life.
Vinny wraps his arms around me. "Everything will be fine, I promise. I will always have your back. I will always protect you. I made that promise to your father a long, long time ago."
I wrap my arms around him, as I cry. My dad really did trust Vinny to look after me, and I know he will do everything he can to make me safe.
“I know, I know. But getting involved with the Frost family…”
“Alice…” Vinny cups my face. “I know what I’m doing, and I do think this is a good move.”
“I don’t want anything to happen to you,” I tell him.
“It won’t, I promise.” Vinny kisses the top of my head, and I do the only thing I can do, give him a smile.
Joining Drew and Uncle Andy at the table, we continue the conversation on what to do if Ben tells us the Midlands family is coming. Ben has been in touch every Friday as always, and our monthly meeting is coming up. The one day of the month I look forward to, just to give him a hug and see that he’s okay. I hate only being able to see him once a month. He is the only family I have in England. Vinny, Drew, and Uncle Andy are my family. They have looked after me, put their lives on the line for me. But Ben, he is the one I worry about most, and if anything happens to him, I will never forgive myself.
Chapter 8
Angel
I park up at my parents' house. Last night was a fucking headache. It started so well with Alice, then Warren had to fuck things up. I'm lucky Craig was with him, and he didn't kill the guard. I had one simple rule, don't fucking kill them.
The guard is in a fucking coma because he couldn't keep it together. I've told him he won’t touch another one until I can trust him, and that's not happening for a while.
I see Pike's name flashing on my phone. "Yes?" I ask as I walk through to the kitchen.
“William just left the hospital. When do you want to start on him?” Pike asks.
Two guards down, and Vinny will start torturing another guard today. So the fun will now begin with playing a few mind games with William. Not one of these guards knows who is behind the payment. Both of them kept saying William never told them. If only William knows, this is where I will finally get a fucking answer.
"Now," I tell him then end the call. Pike and I came up with the first part of the plan. The moment Vinny gets Carl, one by one, his body parts will be sent to William.
I see my brothers chatting as I walk in. Elijah wanted a family dinner today, and that’s the last thing I’m in the mood for. I didn’t sleep last night, still pissed off with Warren. My mood is not one that makes me want to be around my mother.
“Angel.” Ellie says.
I smile at her. “A little dressed up for family dinner, aren’t we?” I ask her. I see the rest of the family behind her and become confused.
"We're going out after dinner. I asked some friends to come over. Elijah didn't mind," she says as she looks over at Elijah smiling.
“Angel, I’m…”
"I think you should shut the fuck up before I punch you."
I stop Warren from saying anything else to me. He’s lucky Pike was there last night to stop me. Otherwise, he would have been in the hospital.
"How about we get through a dinner without killing anyone," my dad says as he begins to laugh. "Angel, what Warren did last night was out of love. If that were Elijah or me, we would have done the same." My dad pats me on the back.
Maybe he’s right, but they need to listen to what I say. I don't want them to die. I want them to fear me.
“Dinner will be ready in ten minutes. Can I get anyone a drink?” My mum asks.
I look over at her walking towards me.
“I will get myself one.” I turn to Ellie. “Are you going to the bar?”
“No. Thanks to you, I’m now single. So I’m going somewhere you’re not.” She pokes her finger into my chest.
The guy was a fucking loser and thought he had a shot with Ellie. I don't think so.
"Well, I'm not going to let a dick like him date my sister. So, do I know these friends of yours?" I ask as I walk over to the kitchen with her to get myself a drink.
"I think you might," she says. The doorbell rings and she turns away from me to answer it.
"Elijah, are you going to tell us what is happening? I have things to do," I say as I fill my glass with whiskey. I told Pike to come over soon as William left the hospital so we can have fun tonight. As soon as Vinny gets him, he is supposed to call Pike.
“You’re not leaving until you’ve had dinner,” my dad says from behind me.
"I will stay for dinner. Then I have to leave." I look behind me as my body tells me Alice is here. I feel like I’m losing my mind with her.
There she is, looking sexy as always. I can’t help but drink her in. There is no way she is going anywhere wearing that fucking dress.
"I'm really sorry, but Elijah wanted a family dinner. He said you could both stay for dinner and then we will go," Ellie tells Alice and Drew as they walk closer to us all.
Alice stops in her tracks when she sees me.
Her eyes shift from that bright sparkle to a having little fear in them. Drinking my whiskey, I keep my eyes on her as she watches me.
"Dad, this is Alice, and you know Drew." Ellie introduces her to my dad, and he leans in for a polite hug.
“And you know these three.” Ellie points to us.
I put my empty glass on the table, and put my hands in my pockets as she smiles at us.
“I would give you a hug, but I like my head attached to my body, and I would like to have sex with my wife tonight,” Elijah says.
Gwen laughs beside him.
"Sorry, Alice, I would too, but I'm already in his bad books," Warren tells her.
Alice rolls her eyes at them, and then looks at me. Here come the daggers again.
“Seriously, your brothers can’t even give me a hug to say hello?” Her hands are on her waist, but the only thing I’m looking at is her legs, her sexy, perfect legs.
"No," I say. Like I'm going to let anyone touch her. She's lucky that I haven't chopped off Vinny's hands for doing it. "Ellie, you're not going out to any other bar unless it's mine," I tell her.
“She can’t or I can’t?” Alice bites back.
I press my lips together to stop myself from smiling and take a step closer to her. Then she takes one back, closer to my dad. If she thinks standing next to my dad will help her, she is wrong.
"You can't. They can do whatever the fuck they want."
Her eyes burn into mine.
"So it's my bar or no bar." I move a little closer to her as my dad walks away. I can hear him laughing.
“You’re…”
"Your plans for tonight involve me, and your plans for the rest of your life involve me. So get used to it," I whisper in her ear. Then I kiss her neck, making her shiver a little.
I walk away to join everyone in the dining room when Pike walks into the house. I hear Ellie talking to Drew and Alice as they follow.
"Mum, this is Alice," Ellie says, making me look over at them.
Mum says hello then walks away.
I lean back in my chair as Pike sits down and hands me a whiskey. I look at everyone sitting at the table. Alice looks at me. Is she wondering if she should sit next to me?
“The answer is yes to what you’re thinking Alice,” I tell her.
She turns to Drew. Drew glances at me, then whispers something to Alice.
