Cruel Vengeance (Psycho World Book 1), page 7
“If I agree to work with the families who only want to work with me, what about the others?” I ask.
“Theo’s been talking to them; they all understand you need to work on the campaign.” Henry walks around his desk, finishing the last of his whiskey, and nods for me to follow him out of the office. “Hunter, I’m with you and I support what you’re doing. I’ve been pushing Theo to start working with some families, to take the business stress away from you, but—” He stops for a moment, looking over his shoulder, finding only Colin behind us. “Theo has some bad blood with some of the families, and they refuse to work with him.”
And there is the truth. When Theo was young, he was a fucking hothead, getting into fights left and right. I always had to bail him out. That’s what drugs can do to a person, although I’ve never touched the stuff and don’t plan on it either.
I stop, turning to face Henry. “I will work with the families.” Yet something still feels funny about this new situation, and I’m not sure what to think.
“I will let you get going for the night. I heard it was a good fight last night. There are more families who want to fight you now.”
“I’m always ready to hurt someone.” Henry laughs at my comment, dismissing me for the time being.
Colin and I get back into the car, not saying a word. I wait until we’re out of the drive before I start talking.
“Do you feel like something is off?” I ask.
“Glad you picked up on it too. Theo was way too quiet. What do you think?” Colin glances at me. I have no idea what to say.
“Leave it for now. Keep an ear to the ground if something doesn’t fit then we look into it more.”
I’ve never gone behind Henry’s back before; I’ve never thought he would betray me. Even now I’m not sure if he is or isn’t, but something is not right.
“To the club?” Colin asks, and I nod in response.
If anyone is going to get my mind off this meeting, it’s Raven. If I’m being honest, she doesn’t have to do anything, just being around her is enough.
We enter the club through the back door. Colin and I walk over to the VIP section. Hugo had called to let us know where he was. This is a decent club; each VIP area with its own theme. I told Raven to call the club and let them know which area of the club she wanted. There is a round table in the middle of the room, with a stripper pole through it. One thing I don’t mind watching is Raven using it, while I sit back and enjoy her show. I walk over to Hugo looking at the dancefloor, beer in his hand searching for Raven. When I can’t find her, Hugo nods his head towards the dance floor, and my grip tightens on the bottle Colin just handed me.
Not sure if I’m turned on or pissed off because all the men are watching her.
She should not be wearing that fucking dress to a club. There is nothing to it, a tiny piece of fucking red fabric, covering her mid-thigh, and it still has a fucking slit running to her hip. Fucking hell, she has her whole goddamn leg out. The front of the dressing dips into a low V showing the sides of her breast, something no other man should see but me. I want to rip all their eyes out.
“You let her leave the house in that?” I ask as he shrugs his shoulders.
“You think she listens to anyone?”
If she wants to play fucking games, then we’ll play. I scan the bar looking for someone I already know, someone who will play along with me. I’m not interested in giving anyone the wrong idea, except Raven.
“Kerry’s at the bar.” Colin points in her direction, already knowing what I want to do.
I make my way over, and whisper in Kerry's ear. I need to make someone jealous, and she seems to be game.
“Rumour has it you're a taken man,” she says, turning to face me, her eyes moving to my left hand. No ring yet.
Kerry and I have been friends since we were fifteen. Yes, we’ve slept together, but it’s never been more than a quick lay. Neither of us want anything more.
“I am. It's her I need to make jealous.” I point towards Raven dancing with her friend and two guys. The guys aren’t dancing with Raven; she’s dancing with Toni, but she seems to have forgotten the ring I put on her finger making her mine.
“Raven Cummings is your future wife?”
“You’ve heard of her?” I ask, not at all surprised. Raven has made a name for herself in the social media world.
“You know I have. I will help if you find out where she got her dress from.”
I start laughing, shaking my head at her. “That’s not a dress, that's a piece of fabric, but I will ask her for you.” I hold my hand out, making our way towards the dance floor.
Raven’s head swivels between my friend and I letting me know I’ve just got under her skin. Now I need to light the bomb.
Kerry puts her hands around my neck, and we start dancing slowly to the beat. Raven’s eyes narrow, shooting daggers at me as she watches me dancing. Her glance moves to Kerry’s hand around my neck.
She bites her bottom lip, turning to the man next to her and pulling him closer. Clearly, I didn’t think this plan through. Raven takes the man’s hands and places them on her hips as rage burns through me.
Kerry must feel me tense because she moves closer, her hand creasing down my body as she moves down and then back up. Raven looks more annoyed, and I praise the lord she doesn’t do the same.
Kerry stands, her lips on my neck. I should push her away, but it seems to have the desired effect on my girl. Raven pushes the guy away and pulls Kerry away from me.
“If you want to live, you should walk away,” she grits through a clenched jaw.
Raven turns to face me, eyes burning with hate and lust at the same time. “I might be dancing, but no man touched me. Remember that next time you bring some whore to dance with you,” she shouts at me, a smirk building on my lips. “If we weren’t in public, I would smack that smirk off your fucking face.”
She goes to storm away from me, but I pull her towards me, one hand on her stomach the other on her thigh, my lips on her neck. I move my hips with the music, moving her hips in time with my movements. I spin her around slamming her body into mine, one of my legs between hers.
Raven’s hand moves behind my neck as she moves her hips with mine. Her hand slowly travels down my chest, my lips grazing hers as I pull her closer, feeling her breath on my skin. Planting a kiss on her neck, nibbling at the soft skin gives me the pleasure of hearing a thick moan escape her.
Raven turns around, rubbing her ass against my now hard dick as my hands travel up the side of her body. She reaches back, wrapping her hands around my neck, swaying in sync with me. Both of us are lost in the dance, joining as one.
Raven spins her hips bumping into mine, bringing my face closer. My hand moves up her body to her neck, softly rubbing the area I've bitten with my thumb. She licks my bottom lip, then gives it a small bite, making my grip tighten on her neck.
“I don’t like other men touching or looking at you,” I growl, lust coating my words. Lust and something else I don’t want to pinpoint.
“I don’t like you looking at other women, too.”
My hand around her neck loosens, and I grab her ass, closing the gap between us.
“You feel that? That’s for you and no one else. I won’t look at any other woman when I already have my match in front of me,” I tell her.
No other woman has ever had me under their fucked-up spell except Raven.
No one is to look or speak to her. I want to lock her in my house and keep her captive for my eyes only. I want to be buried deep in her, tasting every drop of her, and she needs to know that.
“We need to go.” I hear Colin behind me and hear panic in his voice.
“Where?” I ask, still dancing with Raven.
“Theo—”
“Fuck.” Colin doesn’t need to say anything else. That fucker has fucked up again, ruining my night once again.
“Before you go—” Raven looks behind me and I nod for Colin to step back— “know this I realize you’re up to something concerning my family, and until I don’t find out what it is, you’re my enemy and nothing else.” Raven pulls away from me, walking up the stairs towards Hugo and her friend. She grabs her clutch and the three of them leave.
If I can kill Theo for ruining my night, I will. The man needs to learn to fight his own battles.
“Let’s go,” I order Colin, leaving the club to fix a problem which isn’t even mine to fix.
Now, I have Raven who doesn’t trust me, for good reason, and my own family hiding something from me.
I’m in a fight to take over London alone by the looks of it.
Seven
Raven
I’ve lost count of how many times my dad has told me about running London with his friends. Ava and I have had to listen to a lot of old stories over the time, but it’s the best part of my day. Lunch and old school stories about things dad and his friends did are amazing.
“You oldies have to get together and go to Vegas for a weekend,” Ava tells him, and he starts laughing.
“That isn’t a bad idea.”
Even though he seems happy on the outside, my dad feels so much pain on the inside. Losing his wife and son to the Silver family and the murder of his best friend still weighs heavily on him.
“Raven, have you found anything?” My dad’s voice fills me with sadness. After all these years, not knowing who was responsible for his friend’s death has weighed heavy on him.
His best friend and his family were murdered. Whoever did it, made it look like my dad was responsible. After a long court battle, we proved he was out of town during the murder. But that didn’t stop them from throwing him in prison for two years for a crime he never committed. Once he was released, he vowed to search for his friend’s killer until his dying breath. It’s been thirty years, and still no he’s clueless. I’ve been looking into it myself and still coming up empty.
“I’m looking through the report again and plan to speak to some of the neighbours this week. I promise, Dad, I will get you answers, even if I have to kill someone to get them.” I take his hand in mine, letting him know I will do everything I can to help him.
“I know you will. You won’t stop until you get revenge for your mother and brother either.” Dad told me a few years ago, the year my brother was killed he saw something change inside me. He saw fire, rage, pain in my eyes; that was the day he knew I was never going to be the same again, and he wasn’t wrong. I became ruthless, heartless, and only craved one thing: blood of my enemies.
“David is coming to the docks tonight, and I have assigned Hugo with the task to find out more details about it. I won’t rest until those two are dead.”
I turn my attention to Ava, my baby sister. If anyone touches her, I will kill them without a second thought. I lost count of how many times I told her I didn’t want her in this life. She needed to learn to fight, fire a gun—shit, my dad and I got a shooting range built in the basement just so she could learn, but she didn’t. She refused to learn. I mean, if she had to shoot at someone, she could, but nothing to kill them. I told her then, until she doesn’t learn to protect herself, she wouldn’t get to accompany me on family business. If anything happens to her while we’re out, she could defend herself. I worry every day that the Silver family will come for her and leave me with no one.
Fear that they will again hurt the people I love most.
I turn back to my dad when he starts talking, “I told your aunt that I would be coming, I’m leaving after lunch—”
I cut him off because he must be crazy for leaving when things are happening here. “Do you think you should? The Silvers are back in England. I don’t want—”
I stop talking when my dad starts laughing, not sure what the hell is so funny, but he begins to talk. “Raven.” I stop and turn to look at Ava who is just watching us both. “I never have to worry about you or Ava because you’ve always protected us. You, my sweet girl, will do everything to protect this family.” My dad takes my hand in his and pats it a few times. “Before you do anything, you always speak to me, and that’s what makes a good leader. Learning from those around you. I never worry about your drive for this family and looking after those we work with. It’s only a matter of one night; your aunt needs me to be there for her, and family is always there for each other if the need arises.”
My uncle has a surgery today, and my dad told me about it weeks ago that he was going to be there for her. I would drop everything if it was my sister. Family will always come first no matter what.
“Ava’s security is all here tonight. I did tell her to stay with you, but God blessed me with two stubborn daughters.” Both Ava and I start laughing. I know my dad will never put us in danger; he will always protect us.
“Please, just watch your back. I can’t lose any more family to them,” I plead.
He cups my face, and plants a kiss on my forehead. “And you always watch yours.”
It’s been just the three of us for six years now. We’re so protective over each other, needing to know if any of us are leaving the city. Our security talks to each other every day so everyone knows what is happening. You would think it would help me relax, but it doesn’t. The fear of losing someone again will always be there. This is the life we live: we win, we lose, but we never fall.
I turn around when I hear footsteps behind me to find Hugo, and Morgan—my dad’s head of security—walking over to us. They both pull chairs out and join us, before looking between each other.
“A family would like to throw a party at the hotel.” Morgan stops when I narrow my brows at him, already knowing this isn’t going to be good.
“But?” my dad and I interject at the same time.
“Something feels off about it. They want it for a drug exchange but have booked it for three nights.”
“Who is the family?” my dad asks.
“Some family from Russia I’ve been looking into, nothing seems off, but something has us both not feeling right about it,” Morgan tells us.
I’ve never questioned Hugo when it comes to gut feelings. He has saved me a few times now, so if he says something doesn’t feel right about the booking, I trust him.
“I have extra men there tonight in the room next to them, and above them. If something is off, my men have been ordered to step in,” Hugo tells us.
Both Dad and I agree they both have it in control. Dad tells Morgan if something goes wrong, we need to set up a meeting with them.
I leave the three of them talking, as I walk out the room with Ava. “Are you sure you don’t want to come stays with—”
“Raven, I’m never going to be able to look after myself if you and Dad are always going to babysit me.”
“I’m not babysitting you. I don’t want anything to happen—”
“If anything feels off, I will call you. I know how to get into the panic room and have my gun ready.”
I’ve been through every escape route and every way to the panic room with her. She goes through a reminder every three months but having one of the Silvers in London has me on edge.
What’s so important for them to be here?
“Okay, if I get my shot tonight, I’m killing him.” I pull her in for a hug. “They won’t hurt anyone I love again,” I say softly.
I take a deep breath, and we make our way back to the table to join my dad talking business.
“How is Hunter? I’m going to say he has a sexy body under that suit.” My sister asks, and I hear her giggling to herself; only my sister would think like that. Soon as she found out I was going to be marrying Hunter Armstrong, I don’t think I’ve ever seen her speechless before. She knew a lot more about him; it was like she made it her job to know him. We overheard my dad talking about a boy who has a name with the Frazer’s, and since then, she found what she could about him. My dad had found his hacker in the family. If we need information on anyone, Ava’s on the job.
“It’s not the worst thing to look at,” I tell her as we both sit back down, and continue talking about the hotels, and what we have planned for them.
My family has been through so much...lost so much.
Now it’s my mission to protect them; and I will die defending the people I love.
Hunter’s been out all day working on his campaign, and if he’s not working on that, he’s in the workshop working on his drug transport cars. Yesterday, he left before I woke up and didn’t return until after I went to bed.
It got Hugo and me thinking as to why is Hunter still doing all the work?
What’s Oscar and Theo’s roles then?
That was always my big question. Why is Hunter the face of the family and not his oldest brother?
Hugo thought it was because Theo is a pussy and his dad knows no one will take him seriously. Theo fucked up his name, taking drugs, and fighting with any family who got in his way. I wouldn’t want anyone like him running my family business either. Hugo burst out into a huge chuckle when Oscar's name was mentioned. Called him nothing but a boy who can’t even hold a gun right. I must admit the Frazers only work if Hunter is doing all the work.
I still think Hunter needs to focus on the campaign. I didn’t agree to marry him for his family; I agreed to marry him if he was Mayor, so he needs to work out what's more important. Becoming Mayor or his family business.
“David’s container is coming in at two. I have men all over the docks.” I glance down at my watch. I hear Hunter talking behind me and look over my shoulder. He doesn’t seem to be happy about something, and I turn to Hugo letting him know not to say anything about David coming tonight.
“I think Theo needs to start…” Hunter trails off when he sees me sitting on the couch with Hugo. “How was your day?” he changes the subject quickly, walking over to the bar to pour himself a drink.
“By the sounds of it, better than yours.” I smile at Colin joining us in the sitting room, and Hunter hands him a drink. “Trouble in paradise?”
We both know neither of us are going to open up about our business. If there is trouble, I would be the last person he would tell. I suppose he trusts me as much as I trust him.
