Listening to the wand buzz at such a fierce frequency only made her decision that much harder.
“I know you will appreciate the experience, téa,” he encouraged her.
“Appreciate” and “enjoy” were two completely different things. She continued to stare at the violet wand, unable to make up her mind.
“You must want it for yourself,” he stated. “I will not force you.”
Brie took her eyes off the violet wand to look at him. The submissive in her longed to please her Master, but he was asking her to choose to experience pain of her own free will, not because he was willing it.
She realized that having to make that choice was the real challenge of this scene.

When he turned it back on at full force, the frightening sound caused goosebumps to rise on her skin. As much as she thought she was ready, Brie was not prepared for the sharp pain and screamed when she felt it.
The cruel intensity of the wand took her breath away as she felt the electrical current pierce her skin. As much as she tried, Brie could not convince herself that he wasn’t leaving a long bloody gash down her stomach.
She immediately opened her eyes and called red.
Sir turned off the toy. “Are we done, then?”
Brie shook her head slowly. “I…I just needed to see my stomach.”
He chuckled, giving her permission to look. Brie lifted her head and stared at her stomach in disbelief. It remained unharmed and without so much as a scratch.
She laid her head back down, still not quite believing it.
“One more pass?” Sir asked.
Enjoying the mindfuck aspect of this scene, Brie nodded.
Once again, Sir turned it to full power. He slowly dragged it from her stomach down to the crest of her mound.
Brie held her breath the entire time, both turned on and frightened by the pain.

Brie smiled up at him, tears still pricking her eyes.

Brie smiled, relieved that Mary wanted to meet at a theater instead of the coffee shop. She took that as a good sign and felt a surge of excitement. The Egyptian was known for screening indie films, which was something Brie loved.
She quickly texted back, What time?

Brie looked up the address on her phone and gave Mary her ETA. Looks like I can be there in forty minutes.

Watching an indie film with Mary sounded way more fun than wandering the outdoor mall alone.
Brie texted Sir to let him know her change of plans before heading out.
She was ecstatic when she arrived several minutes early and found a parking spot right away. Neither of those things had ever happened for her in Los Angeles.
Heading into the theater, Brie looked around for Mary. When she didn’t see her in the lobby, she went to the ticket window. “Have you seen Mary Wilson? She’s a tall blonde—”
“Oh, I know her,” the guy assured Brie, raising his eyebrows suggestively. “Only the hottest thing in Hollywood.”
Brie rolled her eyes. “Have you seen her here? We’re supposed to meet up.”
“Head into the theater,” he told her, pointing to the door.
Brie pulled out her wallet, but when she tried to pay for her ticket, he refused to take her credit card. “It’s already taken care of.”
“Aww, that’s sweet of Mary.”
The door creaked as Brie opened it. She walked into the darkened theater and smiled, instantly recognizing the film on the big screen.
Walking down the middle aisle, Brie looked up to watch the flogging scene between Marquis and Lea from her first documentary.
To her surprise, she seemed to be the only one in the theater and called out, “Mary?” When she got no response, she called out again. “Mary, where are you?”
The film suddenly stopped mid-scene and the theater went pitch black.
Ice coursed through Brie’s veins as she stood there alone in the dark.
“Mary?”
She heard movement just to the left of her.
Before she could turn, someone slid up behind her and covered her mouth with their hand.
Brie let out a muffled scream of sheer terror when she heard the familiar voice whisper in her ear.
“Hello, Brianna Bennet.”

I dedicate A Heart Unchained to the incredible muses in my head. I knew while writing Secrets of the Heart that they had a much bigger story to tell.
Writing this book has been pure joy! Each day I sat down to write another chapter and could barely keep up with my typing as the story played out in my mind.
There are so many touching moments in this book. You can bet I was crying with joy.
And the BDSM scenes?
Oh my, did I have fun writing those! I personally think there are two in here that may be my best yet. I know they got my motor revved.
Then there are the revelations we discover about several of our characters. I sobbed through those because their struggles hit me in the gut.
These people so much more than characters—they are like real people to me. Their pain is my pain. Their joy is my joy.
What I particularly love about this book is that there are little nuggets of goodness that have been sprinkled throughout this book, which you won’t appreciate until later on. My jaw dropped quite a few times while writing it, and I seriously can’t wait for you to experience those moments when you reread this book in the future.
The deeper we get into Brie’s story, the more I cherish the genius of the muses.
I have to give a huge shout out to Kh Koehler. This book took a while to formulate in my head, so by the time I was ready to write, it came out like a hurricane. I kept throwing my chapters at her while I jumped to the next. It was a tough schedule, but she was right by my side and her edits…just wow! She knows my voice and was able to make this book sing. I’m indebted to her.
I also want to give huge thanks to MrRed. When the time came to sink everything I had into A Heart Unchained, he took care of me—making sure I was fed, decorating the house for Trismas, and adding some inspiration to the hot scenes (if you know what I mean).
Then there are my proofers, Becki, Brenda, and Marilyn. They faithfully work beside me each book to help catch those pesky errors that escape. I have to say, I ate up their reactions to this book. It was like opening little presents each time I got an email while they were reading.
