Prologue
Hey King,
Long time no speak. I wish this letter was under better circumstances, but I need your help.
A girl named Venom is going to need you and the club. She doesn’t know it yet, but club sins are about to follow her home. I wish there was something I could do to change that, but by morning I will be dead. I made my bed. Don’t worry, I won’t go out without a fight.
What Venom doesn’t know, and I would appreciate it if you kept this part a secret until it’s safe, is that she is my daughter. I met her mother several years ago when I was still with the club. I didn’t know about her. You know me. If I had, I would have done everything I could to give her the life she deserved. As it is, her life wasn’t easy King. In fact, it was shit.
When she walked into my shop, I thought I was looking at the young woman I fell in love with. She looks so much like her mother. I had my suspicions, and I managed to get a strand of her hair. That’s when I found out the truth.
She is my daughter. My baby girl.
She doesn’t talk about her past, but I can only imagine the horror she faced, and I will have to take that with me to my grave and into the hereafter, but her future I can change. When I die, she will bolt. She’s a runner. Find her, protect her, make sure the club’s past doesn’t come for her.
In time, when you feel it’s right, maybe let her know why I wasn’t around for her childhood. I knew she was special the moment I first saw her. Tell her I love her and I’m sorry for everything.
Dog.
Chapter One
King
Drumming my fingers along the smooth polished wood before me, I waited impatiently. I should have known better. That motherfucker was never on time for anything. He was going to be late for his own funeral. I should know, because when his ass got here, I was going to kill him.
Sighing, I looked at the ceiling and frowned.
Fuck, I needed to get the brother’s in here to repaint again.
My youngest brother Pyro sat across from me blowing bubbles as he played some stupid game on his phone. The constant pop of his gum aggravating me to no end. A lot of things annoyed me lately. I didn’t know why, but it just did. Maybe it was because I was the oldest out of us three. Maybe it was because everywhere I looked, it seemed everyone was happier than I was. Hell, maybe it was because another year had passed and I had nothing to show for it except my club.
That alone should have made me happy, but it didn’t.
I was the oldest Montclair brother, the President of the Sons of Hell. A motorcycle club my grandfather started well before I was a twinkle in my father’s eye. The club was my legacy, and I had no one to pass it down to.
Next was Gunner. The one we were all waiting on. The self-proclaimed man whore of the family. My brother Gunner was my V.P. My second in command, the one I could always count on, except to be on time. Fucker was lucky he was my blood because if he were anyone else, I’d take his fucking cut in a heartbeat. Knowing Gunner as well as I did, he was probably fucking his way through the current freshman class at the nearby university.
Yeah, Gunner had a one-track mind.
Then there was Pyro, the youngest of us boys. I didn’t know what to make of Pyro most of the time. My brother was the only one of us that had a past. A very dark past. We didn’t talk much about it, knowing that Pyro would completely shut down and disappear for days if we did. Speaking of which, I looked over at the calendar and made a mental note of the date. I needed to remind the brothers to be careful next month. Unlike Gunner and I, Pyro never had a problem finding his better half and for a few short months, he had everything until he didn’t. Now, he lived a half-life.
We had a sister, Cassandra, who disappeared at the age of seventeen, never to be heard from again. When my sister disappeared, everything changed in the club. My father, the club President at the time, refused to believe that his only daughter was dead. At the time, he insisted that the Golden Skulls had something to do with her disappearance, but he could never prove it. Back then, there was bad blood between the two clubs. From that moment my sister disappeared, the Sons of Hell had one standing order, to kill any Golden Skull club member they came across. While the club looked everywhere for her, we also systematically took out any Golden Skull member that dared cross anywhere near our territory. It was an order that, until recently, was still in effect.
We never found her.
Approximately two years ago, I received a phone call from Reaper, the President of the Golden Skulls, who claimed he had knowledge concerning Cassandra. My brothers and I flew to California, only to find out that my sister had passed away and left behind a daughter named Jessica. My niece was the spitting image of my sister. I didn’t need a DNA test to know she was a Montclair. My niece was the old lady of a Golden Skull member named Savage. If my sister had lived, she would have been thirty-nine in three months. My brothers and I still celebrated her birthday with a bottle of Jack. It was the one day out of the year the club knew not to fuck with us.
My sister’s disappearance took its toll on our parents. My mom couldn’t take it. The uncertainty of her daughter’s whereabouts eventually killed her. She died almost ten years ago come May. My father followed a few months later when he died of a massive heart attack. After dad died, I assumed control of the club, never forgetting my sister.
There wasn’t a day I didn’t think about her. With her disappearance, I kept a tight leash on my remaining family. That’s why when Gunner didn’t respond to my text, concern set in. I hated being the oldest, the responsible one, but that was just my lot in life. Someone had to be, and I guessed that was me.
I called for church early this morning, sending out the mass text, ensuring every brother received it. The only one who didn’t reply was Gunner. I knew logically that Gunner could take care of himself. We all could, but with my family’s history, I wasn’t willing to chance it.
“Where the fuck is he?”
“He mentioned he was going to town last night. Something about hooking up with a chick,” Priest stated, leaning back in his chair, looking at his phone.
“No pussy is worth missing, Church. Call him.” I stated, looking at my watch. Fuck, I wanted this meeting over fast. I needed to run into town and grab myself a coffee. Unlike the pussies in this club, I didn’t drink that slop water they called coffee. If I wanted flavored hot water, I’d make myself a fucking cup of tea.
“Already did. Went to voicemail,” Bank said, waving his phone at me.
Shaking my head, I groaned. “Enigma.”
“On it,” Enigma said, the club’s tech guy, while getting to his feet.
“Does anyone know the name of the pussy he went to see?”
Pyro grinned. “Holly.”
“Fuck,” I groaned, hanging my head. Holly Evers was my brother’s fucking kryptonite. Ever since that bitch turned legal, Gunner tried everything to get into her pants. Even I had to admit the bitch was fuckable, but she wasn’t my type. No matter how much I tried to talk Gunner out of it, the horny bastard had to have her. When he accomplished his task, he was fucking gone on the bitch. They’d been shacking up ever since. I thought when she left for college that would be the end of it, but fuck no. Every time she came home for summer vacation, I had to deal with Gunner going off the rails and acting like some horny pubescent teen. I had nothing against Holly. She was a rowdy chick. Didn’t take shit from anyone. According to my brother Gunner, she was an animal in the sack. She was also the only one who could get my brother to forget about the club and his responsibilities.
She was a problem.
A big one.
“When did she get back?”
“Last night, apparently. She sent Gunner a text saying she was home for good and wanted to know if he was free.”
Fuck, that’s right. The bitch graduated, and now she was going to be a permanent fixture in town. I needed to get this shit taken care of fast before my brother went off the rails and did something stupid, like getting the bitch pregnant or worse, married the woman.
“And let me guess. Gunner kicked dirt and got the fuck out of here so fast he left dust in his wake.”
“Yep.”
“I’m going to fucking kick his ass when he gets back.”
Enigma returned, shaking his head. “He’s here. Just rode in.”
Drumming my fingers on the table, I waited for Gunner to show his ugly mug. When he did, I stood as he approached with a shit-eating grin on his face. Good thing that grin didn’t work on me anymore because I hauled off and punched him in the face. I said nothing, didn’t even flinch when he staggered back, rubbing his chin.
There wasn’t anything to say.
Club first.
Pussy second.
He knew the drill.
Gunner kept his fucking mouth shut, taking a seat as I returned to mine. “Now that everyone is here, we have an order to fill. Gunner, you will take the lead since you seem well rested and thoroughly fucked. Pick three brothers and head out immediately after church. I want the shipment guarded and hand delivered. Absolutely no fuck ups and no sight-seeing. Just deliver the damn goods and make sure the cash is legit. Enigma, get with Bank and make sure that when the cash arrives, we don’t have any problems dispersing it. We have a meeting in two weeks with the Scorpions on the West Virginia border. I want every brother packing for that meeting. I do not trust those fuckers.”
“You expect problems, Prez?” Trip asked.
“Not taking any chances. Those fuckers have burned us before. They do it again and it will be the last time. Before I forget, Frankenstein has asked for help at the Distillery.”
The room groaned.
No one wanted to work with Frankenstein. The man was nuttier than a fruitcake for sure, but he was the best for creating our product. A special blend of my creation, Frankenstein, patiently worked with me for months to get the formula just right. Now, we delivered our product up and down the east coast to all the bars and M.C.’s around.
“Well?” I asked, when no one volunteered. “Okay then, guess I’ll pick.” Looking around the table, I eyed every brother. I already knew who I was going to choose. I just enjoyed watching them sweat for a bit. “Priest, you’re up.”
“Oh, come on man!” Priest griped. “What the fuck did I do to you?”
“Nice language their Priest. How many Hail Mary’s is that going to cost you?” Enigma chuckled.
Priest flipped Enigma the one finger bird as we all laughed.
“Anything on the special project?”
“I’ve got it covered.” My brother Pyro stated, never taking his eyes from his phone. Not that I expected him to. I knew damn well that if I asked Pyro to repeat everything said so far, he would. Verbatim.
“Keep me posted. Okay, boys. We’ve got a light week. Let’s get it done.” With that, I stood and walked out of church. Heading outside, I had just sat on my bike when Gunner shouted at me. “King, wait up!”
Turning to him, I asked, “What?”
“I need to talk to you.”
Starting my bike, I revved the engine as I shouted angrily, “No, you need to get your ass on the road. That shipment isn’t going to deliver itself, and when you get back, you and I are going to discuss your current choice of pussy.”
Pulling away, I took off, kicking up dirt as I sped out of the compound. Passing the main clubhouse where all the brothers slept and partied. I tightened my grip as my bike raced forward. Any reason to ride my bike and I was game. Even if it meant every morning I rode into town for a damn cup of coffee.
The club was situated up on the mountain surrounding the small town of Rosewood in the Shenandoah Valley, which was part of the Appalachian Mountains. A picturesque drive that many brothers loved. The long, winding roads, lined with full trees, were a biker’s dream. The fresh mountain air blowing in my face as the warm summer sun hit my back felt like heaven. There was nothing better in this world, other than pussy and though I was always game for a hot, wet hole, what I really wanted at this moment was my morning cup of joe.
The ride from the clubhouse to Rosewood took about twenty minutes, barring no school buses got in my way. As I rounded the bend at the base of the mountain, the town of Rosewood came into view.
Summertime was soon approaching, and the influx of tourists to my small town was imminent. So much so that the club would detour down a back road for future club runs.
The town of Rosewood was a pain in the ass during tourist season. With people coming from all around to visit the quiet, quaint town. During the summer, tourists inundated Rosewood with people from all over the country. The only time it was worse was when the snow fell, and we got the rich bitches and their billionaire husbands skiing on the mountain. God, I hated those fuckers worse than the summer idiots. But the town needed their money to survive, and the town catered to all their needs.
The only good thing that came from having all these damn tourists was the new coffee shop that opened last year when an older couple from one of the New England States decided they wanted to retire in the country. Hands down, that little coffee shop they opened made the best coffee on the planet. Much better than that big conglomerate coffee shop that was here previously. Never understood the need for a double caramel macchiato with skim milk and whipped cream.
Coffee tasted best when served black. Plain and simple. It didn’t need any of that fancy bullshit. If I wanted whipped cream, it better be on a beautiful set of tits or pussy would be even better.
Spotting an empty parking spot, I pulled in and shut off my engine. The town was just waking up as stores flipped on open signs or opened their doors. Every time I came into town, it did not disappoint me with what I saw. The town was booming and gearing up for the upcoming summer festivities.
Getting off my bike, I looked across the street as something caught my eye. Taking a better look, I smirked, seeing Rosewood’s first tattoo shop. Aptly named too. Venom’s Ink. I knew of several men and women who would help keep that little store open, myself included. I hated riding all the way into Bristol for ink therapy. Fuck, I hoped the new artist knew what the fuck he was doing. Maybe after my morning coffee I would go check it out.
Coffee first.
Heading inside the Main Drip, owned and operated by Mike and Beth Brewer, I damn near cried as the aroma of the freshly brewed black gold filled my nose. Transplants from Rhode Island, they were hard workers enjoying their later years as their two kids were off living their own lives. They took to the town quickly, and Rosewood welcomed them with open arms.
“Good morning, King,” Beth smiled, as I walked in, hearing the tiny bell over the door jingle.
