NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR
I am deeply touched by all the kind emails I get through my website, www.markcheverton.com. I try to reply to them all, but if you type your email address incorrectly, then I cannot reply. Sorry!
It is incredibly gratifying to hear that so many of you are reading more and more. That is wonderful, but I am especially excited to hear that many of you are starting your own Minecraft stories. Writing is a fantastic thing; you can create your own characters and the world they live in and take them on incredible adventures, like I have done with Gameknight999 and his friends. I recently read a quote from Ben Franklin that I think is appropriate here: “Either write something worth reading, or do something worth writing.” I love that quote and try to keep it in mind every day. You should, too. Maybe helping out a friend is something worth writing about; helping someone in Minecraft, or at school—anything and everything is worth writing about. I know it can be scary starting your story; it’s terrifying for me every time I start a new book. But a quote from my favorite author, Ray Bradbury, says it all: “You only fail if you stop writing.”
If you get stuck in your writing, look at the Story Fun section of my website to get ideas. There are some great story beginnings that will jump-start your imagination.
I’ve started going on to Minecraft servers again with my son and have found some really interesting ones. In fact, Gameknight999 and I have also started our own server called SuperCraft. Pictures of the server and the IP address are on my website. Come onto SuperCraft and say hello! But I also like going on to other servers as well. Of course there are the classics, like Mineplex and Hypixel, but I’ve found some new ones like Vortex and Mythcraft. I’ve been especially enjoying many of the new skyblocks servers out there as well. We’ve been looking at the fantastic server tutorial videos from LBEGaming on YouTube, and he has been kind enough to help us set up our server. He clearly knows a lot about Minecraft servers, and his help in setting up our server has been greatly appreciated. Check out his YouTube channel and see if you can learn something new. If you see quadbamber (LBEGaming) out there on our server, be sure to say hello, and look for me, Monkeypants271 and Gameknight999, as well. Maybe we can play one of the many minigames together that we have on our server if I’m not building Gameknight’s castle. Readers seem to like playing PvP against me, probably because I’m terrible at PvP and always seem to lose. Oh well!
Keep those stories coming in, I love posting them on my website.
Keep reading and watch out for creepers.

EXCERPT FROM DESTRUCTION OF THE OVERWORLD
Gameknight999 leapt out of the minecart when it emerged from the tunnel and into the new crafting chamber. Instantly, his heart sank when he saw the items strewn about on the sandy cavern floor.
They were too late. The endermen had already been here and had wreaked terrible destruction on this village. Not waiting for anyone else, Gameknight charged up the sandstone steps that led to the tunnels and the surface, his mind blinded with rage.
“Gameknight, wait for the others!” Crafter shouted, but was ignored.
Pushing open the iron doors, he bolted through the round chamber and sprinted through the tunnel that would take him to the vertical ladder. As he ran, he could hear footsteps echoing behind him. Gameknight999 readied himself for battle. Stitcher emerged from the darkness and skidded to a halt.
“Come on, let’s go,” she said, then streaked past him.
He sprinted after her. More footsteps sounded behind him, but he ignored them and just ran, hoping to get to the surface and save someone, anyone. Scaling the tall ladder, he moved his hands and feet in a constant rhythm, climbing as fast as he could. When he reached the top, he saw Stitcher’s lithe form climbing the ladder that would take her to the topmost level of the watchtower.
Leaping high into the air, he grabbed the third rung and climbed after her. In seconds, he was at the top of the tower. All around, the village, more items sat discarded on the ground, the tools and food left to decay in the sun. All the villagers were gone, destroyed by Feyd and his army of monsters.
Gameknight growled.
“We’re too late!” he snapped.
“But just barely,” Stitcher said as she pointed out across the desert dunes.
In the distance, Gameknight999 could see the army of endermen moving away from the village, the dragon flying high above, carving out lazy circles above the dark nightmares. He could just barely make out a dark red enderman at the head of the formation; it was his enemy, Feyd.
Drawing his sword, Gameknight turned toward the ladder, but Stitcher’s hand grabbed the back of his armor.
“You can’t go out there,” she said. “There are too many of them and too few of us. It would be suicide.”
Gameknight turned his head and glared at his friend, but knew she was right. Sheathing his sword, he moved back to the tower’s edge and stared out at the enemy forces. Below, he could hear his friends moving out into the village, looking for survivors; he knew they would find none.
Just then, the dragon turned and stared back at the village.
“Quick, HIDE!” Gameknight shouted to Stitcher and those below.
Gameknight ducked behind one of the stone crenellations that ringed that tower’s peak. Looking to Stitcher, he could see that she had done the same, hiding behind a stone cube. Somehow, Gameknight could feel the monster through the fabric of Minecraft. He didn’t understand it, but he could sense the monster in the distance—and there was something familiar there, a feeling he’d felt before. Chancing a glance, Gameknight peeked around the block’s edge. In the distance the dragon hovered in the air, staring back at the village. It was surrounded by sparkling purple teleportation particles, but also intermixed was a cloud of sickly yellow particles that gave the monster a sinister and diseased look. When the creature turned its head, Gameknight expected to see the purple eyes staring back at him, but to his surprise, they were absent. In their place blazed two intense white rectangles, the hatred of a thousand suffering lives held within those eyes.
And at that moment, Gameknight recognized his enemy—Herobrine.
Somehow, the terrible virus had survived the void and now infected the Ender Dragon. Gameknight pulled his head back and sat on the ground, his back against the stone block, his mind reeling.
“Gameknight, what’s wrong?” Stitcher asked. “You’re as pale as a skeleton.”
“Look at the eyes of the dragon, but be careful so that it doesn’t see you.”
Stitcher leaned out just enough to move one eye past the block. A gasp escaped her mouth as she pulled back and sat down, her face as white as Gameknight’s.
“It’s Herobrine,” she whispered as though she did not want the distant dragon to hear her.
Gameknight nodded his head.
“But how can that be?” she asked.
He shook his head as thoughts exploded in his mind.
We threw him into the void, he thought. I saw him fall, saw his terrible eyes blink and go out. How can he still be alive?
Memories of every battle with the terrible monster replayed themselves as he sat there, shaking with fear.
How am I going to stop him now? He’s a dragon!
