The Night Before the Christmas Before I Was Married & Other Festive Tales

The Night Before the Christmas Before I Was Married & Other Festive Tales

Adam Maxwell

Crime / Children's / Fantasy

Charles Dickens has dominated the Christmas short story market for too long and he's so bloody depressing... wouldn't you rather read something that was funny, had comedy misunderstandings, people accidentally getting engaged and generally was a lot more entertaining and less depressing? Then you're in luck... Let's be honest, Christmas can be a pain in the arse (or a pain in the 'ass' if you're from the other side of the pond) and this collection features some stories that I think we can all relate to... Whether it's becoming accidentally engaged to your ex when your fiancee is coming home for Christmas... Or perhaps you're spending Christmas with the in-laws, your wife is stupifyingly drunk and you destroy the presents... No? In that case you'll want to see what happens when two master hypnotists clash over an argument concerning a Christmas tree... All these things and literally two others are dealt with in this collection of Adam Maxwell's Christmas stories. He has asked me to tell you that he hopes these things don't happen to you this Christmas. And he also hopes they don't happen to him.

Dial M for Monkey

Dial M for Monkey

Adam Maxwell

Crime / Children's / Fantasy

Product DescriptionAdam Maxwell's first collection of short stories is inventive, funny, dark, and hugely entertaining. The twenty stories included here range from a bizarre quest to find a dead rockstar's limb (Jim Morrison's Leg) to a memorable warning about the hidden dangers of building sites (the acclaimed Shooting Jelly With A Shotgun). Effortlessly fusing pop culture, gunplay, and simians, Dial M For Monkey contains a vibrant mixture of short stories - and short-short stories - most never published before. This unmissable collection represents another shot in the arm for the resurgent form of the short story. As featured in Tonto Short Stories and Dave Eggers' McSweeney's. About the AuthorAdam Maxwell was born in 1976 and has written for a plethora of publications, including Dave Eggers' McSweeney's, and Tonto Short Stories. According to his wife, he has an 'unhealthy obsession' with Bob Dylan and the Beatles, and manages to be 'increasingly worrying' in a number of other areas. He has a Masters Degree in Crea-tive Writing from Northumbria University, and lives in the wilds of Northumberland. This is his first book. He has a website at www.adammaxwell.com.

The Witch With the Glitch

The Witch With the Glitch

Adam Maxwell

Crime / Children's / Fantasy

Nina, Ivy and Oswald know a huge secret. There is a hidden room in the Lost Bookshop and the books inside are magic, transporting the children to untold adventure. When they find themselves zapped by the wand of a witch with a glitch they begin a race against time to reverse the spell. They must find the mysterious Izzy before the clock strikes midnight on Halloween or risk being stuck in the fairytale land forever. The Witch with the Glitch is an exciting, funny and thrilling chapter book for middle grade readers that’s sure to have you desperate for just one more page. Interview with the Author Q - So, what makes the Lost Bookshop series special? A - Probably that each adventure is so completely and utterly different. When I started working on the books I wanted to write a middle grade book series where the children would be able to go anywhere and do anything, I didn’t want to be limited to one type of story or setting like a lot of chapter books for kids are. I wanted it to be the the kind of book series that I would have wanted to read (and keep going back to as a grown up). It’s just a group of friends drawn into impossible adventures with mysteries, magic and excitement bursting out of every page. There are some great halloween stories for kids out there and I hope this book stands shoulder to shoulder with them but in the following stories the children find themselves as cowboys and cowgirls, circus detectives… the possibilities are endless. Q - What order should I read the books in? A - I deliberately wrote the books so they can be read in any order and, because all the adventures are different, you can be certain you won’t miss anything if you read them out of sequence but if you want a proper answer I would say: The Witch With The Glitch The Mystery of the Missing Monkey The Search for the Sheriff’s Star Q - Where did you get the idea for the Lost Bookshop? A - From every second hand book shop I ever visited and every book I ever bought there! Q - So, why should readers give these books a try? A - Because the Lost Bookshop series is fast-paced, funny, thrilling and full of larger than life characters! Q - Why did you decide to start writing kids books? A - Well, my own daughter (the real Nina) was reading a lot of books. Some of them were great, some of them… not so much. In fact, some of the books aimed at girls are just the same boring princess and fairy stories rehashed again and again and I wanted to write something that was the opposite of that. In the case of 'The Witch With the Glitch' I also wanted to have something special for her for All Hallow's Read! Enjoy the books and thanks for reading!
